The Retal International Competition for Mosques

  • This mosque design was proudly shortlisted for the Retal Mosque Competition in Saudi Arabia.
  • Rooted in prophetic tradition, the architectural concept transforms Hadith into form; each line in the mosque echoes a Hadith, guiding worshippers not only in movement but in spiritual reflection.
  • The mosque is oriented with its longest side perpendicular to the Qibla, maximizing the width of each prayer row. This ensures more worshippers in the foremost rows, while maintaining perfect alignment with the building’s geometry.
  • To enhance openness, internal columns are minimized, and circulation paths are seamlessly integrated to support smooth movement, especially during peak times like Friday and Eid prayers.
  • Natural light and passive ventilation are optimized, reducing energy use and cultivating a serene, contemplative space for worship.
