- Concept Evolution:
- The main concept is based on three main pillars. First, the idea of the link between both banks of the Drava is the main function of the pedestrian bridge.
- However, in our interpretation, it’s an endless relation between a community on the one hand; its roots and culture on the other hand. This relationship starts from the modern part in Tabor towards Lent.
- Secondly, the integration with the Stari Most which is a landmark for the city should be considered.
- Finally, the interaction between traditional and modern construction techniques has another role in linking both banks.
- Architectural Interpretation:
- Within the context discussed previously, first a sector of a spring will be located as a gate of the bridge from Tabor’s bank. The choice of the spring is referred to its endless geometric volute shape that is the best way to represent the endless link between both sides.
- Secondly, a projection of the c.g. of each arch of the Stari Most will break the module of the pedes-trian bridge to create a kind of terraces, one of them is directed to the tower of the Town Hall which is a visual focal point of the city.
- Finally, parts of the floor and sides of the pedes-trian bridge will adopt the geometry and color of the traditional pitched roofs of Lent as a continua-tion of them on the river. While the gate, platform and gla shed will adopt modern, light structures.
- Functional Interaction:
- For a long time, the design of bridges in general, and accordingly the pedestrian ones, is led by either Functionalists or Structuralists. In our design, we are trying to emphasize the consideration of The Pedestrian Bridge as a Public Space. Accordingly, our design is taking into consideration the function of the bridge as a link between both sides as well as it’s interaction with the city life. Thus we created nodes that break the geometry of the bridge in three points that rep resents the interaction with the festivals atmosphere of the city during and after the events of the European capital of Culture and Lent Festival.
- Taking into consideration sustainability we applied natural flooring materials, photocells for lighting fixtures and smart glass shading the southern part of the bridge to avoid glare while moving south.
