- The design for Daegu Gosan Public Library centers around the idea of a protective outer envelope that shields the interior from noise and harsh climate, while also functioning as an interactive public space. This buffer zone not only improves acoustic and thermal performance but invites the surrounding community into a shared educational and social experience.
- A key feature of the design is an “interactive spine” — a linear outdoor passage along the eastern edge that acts as a civic walkway and informal gathering space. It connects directly to a public park and serves as a cultural interface with the neighborhood, incorporating digital displays, seating, and shaded zones for reading and rest.
- Internally, the library is organized vertically: community and cultural spaces are placed on the ground floor, while open reading areas and collections occupy the upper levels. These upper zones benefit from natural light and acoustic separation, supported by a north- and east-facing atrium that channels daylight and filtered air throughout the building.
- Oriented around ecological sustainability and urban inclusivity, the design offers a flexible, responsive space that supports lifelong learning, digital culture, and community engagement.
